Turn the stanchion post upside down and twist the screw counterclockwise to remove the screw, washer, and lock washer.
Push the screw, washer, and lock washer up through the hole underneath in the base, so that when the base is laid down flat, the threaded screw portion sticks up out of the top of the base. You may have to give it a little force to push the screw through the hole, but note that you do not have to thread it as you push it through. Lay the base down flat on the floor, and place the base cover (cap) over the top.
The “hard” part is done, and now it’s as easy as taking the bottom of the stanchion post, lining it up with the screw now located at the base, and repeatedly turning the post clockwise until it tightens on to the base. .
Tip: When the post starts to get tight on the base, tilt the stanchion base back a bit and hold the screw in place with one hand while using your other hand to give the post another few clockwise turns until it is on really tight. Just make sure you have a firm grip and don’t let the stanchion base back down to the floor while your hand is underneath it.
You're all done! It only took a couple of minutes, but you now have a fully assembled stanchion! For usage tips, continue reading below.
Usage tips:
Always be as careful as you can with the belt, whether extending it or retracting it. Though our stanchions are built with quality in mind, handling them too roughly can result in damage. When extending the belt, never pull on it with too much force, and likewise, when retracting the belt, make sure that you help guide it back toward the cassette head (rather than just letting the belt go and having the cassette do all of the work).
Even though the belt is capable of being extended to 8 feet long, we suggest only stretching it to a maximum of 6 feet long. This is for two reasons: 1) if the belt is fully extended to 8 feet long, and someone leans on it, then the cassette can become permanently damaged, and 2) our Retractable Belt Stanchions are heavier than many on the market. While this is great for helping to prevent them from tipping over, when the belt is stretched to the maximum length, the resulting force can make the stanchions lift / tilt toward each other. For those reasons, it is best to have the belts stretched to a maximum of 6 feet long.
To clip the end of a belt into the pairing stanchion, simply locate any of the three available receiving slots located on the cassette of the pairing stanchion. Put the belt clip up over the receiving slot and push it down.
