Using the screw located in the bottom of the base pin, push the threaded screw through the bottom of the base (the screw head should rest against the flat part of the base, not the raised counter-sunk part).
Then, screw the base pin onto the base (the base pin goes on the raised portion).
Tip: For maximum stability, we recommend using the center hole for your base pin.
Our Slip-Fit Uprights are hollow, so putting them onto the base is easy! Just slide the upright over the pin.
Tip: Make sure that the "top slots" -- located right near one of the ends of the upright -- are at the top when you put it on the base. If you put the upright upside down (where the top slots are put over the base pin), then you won't be able to use the drape support rod.
Using the sewn-in pole pocket on your drape, "sleeve" the drape(s) onto the drape support rod.
Now that your drape is on your drape support rod, place the hook end of the drape support rod into one of the open slots on the upright.
Tip: Have both of your uprights set up and in place so that each hook end of the drape support rod has a home.
You're all done! In less than 10 minutes you now have a pipe and drape backdrop. For an extra tip, continue reading below.
Extra tip - Making sure your spacing is correct:
Once you have the base pin on your bases (Step 1), take the drape support rod, set it to the width that you would like, and carefully place it on the floor. Then put a base at each hook end -- where each hook end is lined up to where each base pin is located.
This helps you check that your spacing is correct before you've already put your drapes on the support rod.
If you want to double check, put your uprights over the base pin (Step 2) and hook the support rod into the lower slots (if available; not all uprights have lower slots). Check to see if it is properly spaced, and then proceed to Step 3.

Installing A Locking Clamp
The Locking Clamp allows your Upright to be set to non-even foot interval heights (heights that are in between a button stop location), such as 9 feet, 4 inches tall. To maximize the number of Adjustable Upright pipes that we can fit inside of each box, your Locking Clamp(s) may not arrive pre-installed on your pipe. The instructions below are for installing your Locking Clamp (if you anticipate using your Upright pipes at a height that is not an exact foot measurement):
Step 1:
Push in the button stop while pulling the inner pipe (the pipe with the groove) out from the outer pipe (the slightly larger / round pipe). The inner pipe needs to be completely removed from the outer pipe in order to install your clamp.
Step 2:
With the clamp’s latch “open”, slide the clamp onto the bottom of the inner (grooved) pipe. Be sure that the “nub” located on the interior of the clamp is aligned with the groove of the inner pipe – see the red circle below.

Step 3:
Push in the button stop to allow the clamp to go past it, and slide the clamp up to the top of the inner (grooved) pipe.
Step 4:
Line up the groove of the inner pipe with the dimple that is located on the outer pipe, push the button stop in, and reconnect the two pipes.

The clamp may need to be tightened once installed. You want to get it to the point where if the inner pipe is raised a bit and the latch is closed, the clamp cannot slide up or down on the pipe. If tightening is needed, take a wrench or pliers and tighten the nut circled below in red.
*If the clamp is too loose, the inner pipe will not remain elevated at a non-button stop interval while tightening the clamp. Therefore, the Upright should be laid flat (horizontally) while making any tightening adjustments to the clamp. Otherwise, the inner pipe can come down with force, and may pose a risk to fingers, hands, or any other object.
